Meet Nadia: Getting Started with Your AI Leadership Coach
This is the getting-started guide for new Nadia users. It covers everything from your very first login — entering your name and role and introducing yourself to Nadia — through to what a complete coaching session looks like. You will learn how to use the voice feature, what the homepage shows you as your relationship with Nadia develops, how Nadia handles a real development challenge, and what comes out of a session: a structured approach, role-play with live feedback, a summary, an agenda, a scorecard, and action items.
What to Expect in Your First Sessions with Nadia
- Your first conversation is an introduction — give Nadia context about your work. When you log in for the first time, Nadia will ask a few questions to learn about you and your role. The more context you give her, the more relevant and personalized her guidance will be from the very first session. Pause the video at this step and do the introduction yourself before moving on.
- The homepage gets richer the more you use Nadia. Over time your homepage becomes a personalized dashboard of your development journey — conversations to follow up on, patterns Nadia has noticed across sessions, skills you are actively working on, and suggested topics based on your history. What starts as a clean slate becomes a meaningful map of your growth.
- Voice is the recommended way to talk to Nadia. Speaking rather than typing makes it far easier to give rich context quickly. Nadia transcribes accurately and responds to natural, casual language — no formal phrasing required. Text is always available as an alternative, and you can turn on Nadia's voice if you prefer to listen to her responses.
- Nadia starts with empathy, then moves to structured problem-solving. When you bring a challenge, Nadia's first response combines acknowledgment with clarifying questions. She works with you to identify root causes before offering strategies, and then builds a structured approach tailored to your specific situation — including a full agenda for the conversation or action you need to take.
- Every session ends with a summary, agenda, scorecard, and action items. At the end of a coaching session, Nadia provides a recap of everything discussed, an agenda for follow-up, a scorecard identifying areas for longer-term development, and a list of action items you can save or email to yourself. Every session leaves you with something concrete to act on.
Getting Started: Common Questions
What do I do when I log in for the first time?
When you first log in to Nadia, you will be asked to enter your name and your role. After clicking "Meet Nadia," she will ask a few questions to get to know you. Talk to her naturally — introduce yourself, tell her about your work, your challenges, and what you are trying to improve. Once you are done, Nadia commits key aspects of your work context to memory and uses them to personalize all future conversations. This first introduction is the foundation for everything that follows, so it is worth taking a few minutes to be thorough.
What does the Nadia homepage show me?
The homepage is a personalized overview of your development journey. As you have more conversations, it will show recent topics Nadia wants to follow up on; patterns she has noticed across your sessions; skills you are actively working on; and suggested conversation topics based on your history. Early on the homepage will be relatively sparse — but over time it becomes a rich, personalized picture of your coaching relationship and development progress. You can start a new conversation directly from the homepage at any time.
How does Nadia handle a real coaching challenge?
When you bring a challenge, Nadia starts by acknowledging the situation and asking reflective questions to understand it more deeply. Through the back and forth, she helps you identify root causes and surface factors you may not have considered. Once the root causes are clear, she offers strategies and builds a structured approach — including a full conversation agenda if relevant. She then offers to role-play: taking on the persona of the other person, responding in character, and giving line-by-line feedback on each message you send. The session ends with a summary, scorecard, action items, and a prompt to schedule a follow-up.
What coaching styles does Nadia support?
Nadia offers multiple coaching styles you can select depending on what would be most helpful in a given session. These styles are visible in the bottom right corner of the chat interface during a conversation. Whether you want a more exploratory, reflective approach or a more directive, action-oriented session, you can adjust the coaching style to match what you need in the moment.

What is Nadia and what makes her useful for day-to-day leadership?
Ryan: Hi. This is Ryan from Valence's coaching team, and I'm here to introduce you to Nadia, our AI-powered leadership coach, and help you get started with your first conversation today. She has been designed to be an effortless and natural way for you to get guidance and advice in the moment — as you're tackling different challenges, working on improving different skills, or achieving different goals in your work life.
Nadia is built with generative AI, which makes her extremely accessible and easy to work with. She's always available — if you're having the Sunday scaries before a meeting on Monday, she'll be there to support you. She's conversational and voice-driven, and makes it very easy for you to create a safe space where you can grow and learn. She has great memory, and she will learn a lot about you, your work life, and the context of all the work that you're doing — to make it easier to give you practical and actionable advice that applies to your day-to-day. She's in the flow of work. You can talk to her on Mondays to get your week kicked off, throughout the week as different challenges and tasks come up, and also have longer-term conversations about skills you're trying to build or goals you're trying to achieve. And she speaks a lot of languages — if you speak more than one, I highly recommend talking to her in the language you're most comfortable in.
What happens when you log in for the first time?
Ryan: Let me show you what it's like to get started with your first conversation. As soon as you're logged in, you land on a page where you'll be asked to enter your name and your role. As soon as you click "Meet Nadia," you'll go to a space where she will ask you a couple of questions to learn a little bit about you. Just talk to her — get introduced. The moment you're done, she's going to commit key aspects of your work and the context you work in to her memory, and get started with her conversations with you. If you're at this step right now, you can pause this video and just go in and talk to her to give her some context about your work life.
Once you've introduced yourself, you land on the homepage. Let me give you a quick tour. In my case, she knows me really well — so as I scroll through, she's asking me to follow up on a few recent conversations. She's also highlighting patterns she's noticed as we've gone through different conversations and as she's learned more about me. These are also topics I can talk about — if I click on any of them, she'll start a conversation where we can unpack and work on something I might want to achieve. She has ideas for conversations, and she's checking in on the skills I'm working on. In my case, I'm working on executive communication and delegation right now since my team is growing. And besides that, there are also some trending topics she'll suggest for you.
The easiest way to start a conversation is right at the top of the homepage. She'll ask you to dig in with what's on your mind. Click the Start Recording button and start talking to her.
"Hey Nadia, I just got out of a meeting with my leader, and in passing they mentioned they wanted to give me some feedback — that I could have done better with communicating with the leadership team and also getting my team members involved. I'd like to talk about this today."
The moment you talk to her, she's going to understand what you're trying to say very well. She's going to start with empathy, and also talk about what questions she has based on what you just mentioned. This is how easy it is to have a conversation with her. If you can't use the voice feature, feel free to use text — you'll see that option on the right side. And if you like listening to audio and want Nadia to talk back to you, you can turn on her voice on the left side.
What does a complete coaching session with Nadia look like from start to finish?
Ryan: Let me show you what a completed conversation can look like to give you a few ideas about the different features available. Here's an example of a conversation where I needed to give someone some constructive feedback but felt a little hesitant. Nadia helped me with empathy and structure to problem-solve. She started with a problem-solving approach and also offered an alternative of just practicing the conversation. We started with problem-solving, where she asked me a few reflective questions and helped me think about a previous situation where this might have come up. It's easy to use the voice feature and give her a ton of context.
After a few back-and-forths, she already had root causes for me as to why my team member could be feeling defensive, and she gave me techniques to address and structure the conversation. As we continued, she gave me the full structure for the conversation — coaching me on what I could do specifically at every step. After that, we started role-playing so I could practice giving feedback to my team member and get better at it. With each message I sent, Nadia gave me live feedback and helped me improve.
At the end of the conversation, she gave me a summary, an agenda for future conversations, and a scorecard on how I did. While we were talking, she gave me insights about my own working style, collected action items, and suggested setting up the next session. You can also read Nadia's notes on the right side, see all the different coaching styles available in the bottom right corner, and email yourself a summary of the conversation.
I highly recommend exploring different features as you're having conversations with Nadia. I hope you're excited to get started on your journey. Thank you for your attention. Please reach out to us if you have any questions while getting started.
