A letter from our CEO

The future has rarely been more uncertain. How our lives - our family lives, our working lives, our social lives - will look one month, three months, or even a year is unpredictable.

Over the past month, the crisis around Covid-19 has upended our lives. Few of us have experienced this level of upheaval, this quickly. The future has rarely been more uncertain. How our lives - our family lives, our working lives, our social lives - will look one month, three months, or even a year is unpredictable.

Our ability to cope is under enormous strain.

At Valence, we want to do our part to help, offering what we know best.

We founded our company determined to build digital tools that help people and teams create successful, intentional, lasting change.

Until now, we’ve brought this toolset to the enterprise level, helping some of the world’s biggest companies build better cultures, stronger leadership programs and successful transformations.

Change is happening faster than ever, and we’re faced with an unprecedented need. We want to help any leader and their teams cope with a level of change that no one anticipated.

So we’ve added to our toolset to deal with the issues that we’re hearing about most from managers, and offering these new crisis-specific solutions for free, to any manager and their team, over the duration of the crisis.

The managers and leaders we talk to are in uncharted territory.

They are working from home, sometimes with kids in tow. They’re trying to adapt to changing guidance about how their social lives are to be lived. Business realities are increasingly challenging and uncertain, leaving managers and leaders to make sense of what’s happening in their industries.

A lot of information and resources are now being focused on remote teams, but this is about far more than being remote. Teams and managers are under tremendous stress as they try to make sense of this crisis.

Leaders are supporting their teams at a time when they’re adjusting to working remotely, but more importantly, when they have substantive worries - be it about their health, their loved ones, their jobs, their kids’ schooling, their decisions. These feelings are with them every time they log in to work.

There are no easy answers for how to lead a team in these circumstances. However, there is a good rule of thumb: leaders need to make conversations explicit.

During the past month, we adapted our offerings to make them more specific to today’s challenges. We will continue to evolve these tools, helping leaders host more authentic conversations with their teams to build an understanding of how stress affects their work and foster empathy for each other’s realities.

We humbly hope these offerings can do their little part to help people cope during this crisis. We are committed to providing them for free to any manager, leader or team who is interested, for the duration of the crisis.

With hope and solidarity,

Parker
